Application for the student visa is a very simple process. The institution in which you have been admitted acts as your local sponsor and files the visa application s filled by you, Forms V 36 and Form 16, to the ICA - Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, the visa issuing authority in Singapore. They charge about Singapore Dollars 500 in most cases for this function. |

| Only the institutions listed as Institutes of Higher leantring IHL in Singapore are allowed to do so for their students. These are the three local universities, five local polytechnics and seven offshore institutes with local campuses.You do have the option of having a resident of Singapore who you know well, to sponsor you but the university doing it on your behalf is easier. |

| The visa fee is SGD 40 and an additional SGD 30 is charged for those who require a single entry visa to travel to Singapore so that they may do the medicals and get their student pass. Applications must be submitted through the Student's Pass On-Line Application and Registration ( SOLAR ) which is accessible through the website. You may check www.ica.gov.sg for details about the visa process and download the necessary forms from there. |

- Two photographs on matt paper of a specific size
- Acceptance letter from the college
- Birth certificate or notarized affidavit for the date of birth
- School/college certificates and marksheets
- Employment letter showing duration of work
- Proof of current activity
- Form V 39S to be filled in by the sponsor (college)
- Bank statement of applicant or sponsor (parent) showing about SGD 40,000 for most degree programs. This demonstrates availability of adequate funds to meet the expenses of the student
It takes about three weeks for the visa approval to come through. During the July/August peak period it may take a little longer. An in-principle approval IPA letter is issued with a double leaf visa stamped page and is sent to you by your college. You can then travel to Singapore within 30 days of issue of this visa and will have to undergo a basic medical examination at a designated hospital, like Raffles Hospital, where they will conduct an ECG, Chest X-ray and a blood test for HIV. The report is ready the same afternoon and you present it to the ICA the next morning. You get your Visit pass and Student pass; two cards that signify that you are now officially granted student resident status, immediately. These cards will allow you to travel |
